For businesses

Your first 30 days as a chamber member

Use your first month to learn what is included, introduce your business clearly and choose a manageable way to participate. This suggested schedule should fit your chamber’s actual calendar—not become another obligation.

Week one: understand what you joined

Read your welcome information and ask staff to clarify anything missing: included programs, event fees, directory details and the best person to contact. Confirm that your business information is accurate wherever the chamber publishes it.

Write a short introduction that covers who you help, what you do and one reason you joined. Avoid a long sales pitch. A specific introduction helps staff suggest relevant activities without guessing what you need.

Week two: choose one relevant gathering

Look for a suitable event, orientation or conversation. If nothing fits your schedule, ask about other ways to participate. Programs differ by chamber; the U.S. Chamber’s overview of potential membership benefits is not a list of entitlements at yours.

Go with a question worth asking, such as how other businesses prepare for a seasonal rush. Listen for shared problems rather than trying to meet everyone in the room.

Week three: follow up where there is a reason

Reach out to people who agreed to continue a conversation. Refer to the specific topic you discussed and suggest one next step. Do not upload an attendee list to a marketing tool simply because you attended the same event.

If you offered to share a resource, send it. If someone is not the right customer for you, the relationship may still be useful for learning or community work. Do not force it into a sales opportunity.

Week four: decide what to repeat

Review what you learned, which conversations were useful and how much time participation took. Pick one activity to repeat or a question to ask staff. It is too early to attribute every business result to membership.

Your Chamber Connect profile and your chamber membership are separate. Updating one does not necessarily update the other; check each place your business appears.

  • Confirm included benefits and extra costs.
  • Check your published business details.
  • Prepare a two-sentence introduction.
  • Choose one realistic activity.
  • Follow up only where there is a welcome reason.
  • Record what to repeat, change or ask about.
